While practicing medicine, Andy became trained in alcohol recovery at the St. Five years later, Andy was invited to lead the Vanderbilt General Internal Medicine group at the Vanderbilt Medical Clinic. One of his revered teachers at Vanderbilt Medical School, Tremaine Billings, MD, asked Andy to join him and John Griscom, MD in their private practice. Returning to Vanderbilt, he became the first Hugh Morgan Chief Resident in general medicine. Additional training in internal medicine included one year at Johns Hopkins and two years doing research at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases. He attended Montgomery Bell Academy and then Vanderbilt University where he prepared to be a physician. He was born to William Anderson Spickard and Elizabeth Creighton Spickard Schumann on Augin Englewood, NJ.Īndy was a resident of Nashville, TN beginning in 1934. His deep trust in Jesus and the power of prayer fueled everything he did and gave him the wisdom and strength to impact so many lives. William Anderson Spickard, Jr (Andy), 90, passed away on December 8, 2021.Īndy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, a revered physician, and an expert in the treatment of addiction.
